On the night of January 1, in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on the Lenin Square an 82 foot Christmas tree caught fire. The host of the festive event asked the spectators not to panic and continue to dance. Eventually the tree burned to the ground. Reports say an inaccurately launched firework started the fire.
